Hand sewn on Cape Cod

These bags are hand made using recycled materials. The upper section of the bags are made from used kiteboarding kites that are no longer fit for flying, but still great material for bags! Once the kites have been retired they are cut and sewn into bags. The lower section of the bags are made of more durable canvas, sourced from the Maine Fabric Warehouse. Some small scraps of canvas are harvested from marine canvas fabrication remnants. These small strips of canvas are too small for patching boat covers and are usually trash, but they can be repurposed as the small bottom sections on a bag quite nicely!

Re-using these materials means that scallywag bags have a small footprint, keeping materials out of the landfill, repurposing them for a new use, and doing it all locally on Cape Cod without any additional shipping of materials.

Sewing Machines

In a basement on Cape Cod, the materials are combined and sewn on a Bernina 830 zig zag. The thick straps and canvas are sewn on an industrial walking foot Juki LU-563.
